About

At a glance

The “Philips Respironics European Class Action” project was created to protect the rights of users of certain medical devices who were exposed to toxic substances.

A number of actors play a role in the project given the magnitude of the impacted population believed to be in excess of 1.2 million across the European continent.

At the heart of it is GJN together with ADUSBEF, class representatives and prominent lawyers from several countries.

GJN is an international non-profit organization of law firms and lawyers from various jurisdictions in all continents who collectively work together for the benefit of victims around the world.

GJN members have extensive experience in the representation of victims of mass torts occurring across the globe, having successfully represented large numbers of plaintiffs in cases against multinational pharmaceutical corporations, as well as manufacturers of medical devices and of aircraft components, owners or operators of commercial aircrafts, ship managing companies, shipyards and car makers, among others.

Very often harmful conducts cross borders, endangering personal life and health of a variety of citizens: GJN lawyers cross national boundaries too, identifying claims situations that present complex legal issues and require specialist advice, often in relation to catastrophic circumstances.

GJN lawyers have vast experience helping victims with all different kinds of injuries in many different parts of the world and they pool such experiences to create an enhanced cross-border knowledge base, speaking all needed different languages, using updated technology to stay connected and sharing information instantaneously, and managing and monitoring the claim process through to its conclusion.

GJN was born due to the inspiration and support of Mr. Robert L. Lieff, founder, principal architect and visionary of Lieff Cabraser Heimann and Bernstein, LLP (LCHB), one of the largest plaintiffs’ law firms in the world with 75 lawyers and 200 employees in San Francisco, New York and Nashville. At the conclusion of 2022, Robert left his position in LCHB and is practicing as Lieff Global.

Since 2007, the Global Justice Network has also convened cultural events including conferences and workshops bringing together attorneys and law firm representatives from 5 continents in different venues including New York, London, Paris, Rome, Vienna, Zurich, Dublin, Krakow, Amsterdam, San Francisco, Rio de Janeiro, Prague and Athens.

It is with the above internationally-oriented approach that GJN accepted requests of involvement in the CPAP, BiPAP and Trilogy matter, in order to assist those users in getting fair and full redress at EU continent level.

Many GJN members are now counsel of records within the present EU class that has been launched.
